CAMPFIRE

______
Don’t leave me as warm ashes
       to blow in the wind.
Dash me with cool water -
      for a fitting end.

Throw on more wood,
     bring me to hot cinder.
The power I gave
     was loving and tender.

I rendered to you
     a measure of power.
To hold you in trance
     for moment - and hour.

Throw on more wood -
     make me crackle and glow.
Let me dance on the logs -
     with more time to show.

More time to show
     the spirit can arouse.
The mind can be free -
     the soul can browse.

If you must leave me,
in these lonely woods of night.
Don’t leave me smoldering -
     and full of fright.

Don’t leave me as warm ashes
     to blow in the wind.
Dash me with cool water -
     for a fitting end.
