I’ll Wait
      __________
I’ll wait in this field,
until others come to play.
I’ll wait until they get here -
then I’ll have a grand day!

I’ll wait until I’m taller
to tell her how I feel.
I’ll wait until she admires
my muscles of steel.

I’ll wait until college
to divulge my capacity.
I’ll wait until others
can admire my tenacity.

I’ll wait until I’m older
to take me a wife.
I’ll wait until I’m secure
for a partner in my life.

I’ll wait until tomorrow
to laugh -- and to cry.
I’ll wait for friendships;
have no need of good-bye.

I’ll wait at this job;
let retirement come my way.
I’ll wait here in apathy
and long for that day.

With abiding patience,
I waited with great pride.
Few by my graveside;
-- Nobody cried --

I’ll wait in this field,
until others come to play.
I’ll wait until they get here -
then I’ll have a grand day!
