THE PROSPECT

There once was a motorman, who lived by the sea
He dotted every "i"
and crossed every "t"

Once there was a partner, to help in his plight,
but he and the partner
had a dreadful fight.

The partner was gone now - it was never to be
Only the motorman,
to live by the sea.

He searched for a partner, to fill in the space
No one was found
to take the place.

He ended his search, to go it alone
after checking every bush
and turning every stone.

The motorman was lonely, in his work you know!
the motor man was lonely,
with no one to show.

No one to show how things should be-
how to dot every "i"
and cross every "t"

One warm and beautiful day
a bright young Prospect
came his way.

The Prospect was eager and wanted to know.
The motorman was thrilled!
and anxious to show.

To show the young Prospect how great work could be,
when you dot every "i"
and cross every "t"

For years they worked on the projects at hand.
They would take out a motor
and put it on stand.

The motorman watched moves the Prospect did make.
He was quick and strong,
to point out a mistake.

The bright young Prospect had learned to be-
an equal to the motor man
who lived by the sea.

The bright young Prospect began to feel,
"I can run my own shop"
"I can turn my own wheel"!

The motorman resisted the Prospects request.
The motor man felt,
He knew what was best!

The Prospect insisted, "It just has to be"!
"I can dot every "i"
"I can cross every "t".

The motorman knew, for a partner to be -
the bright young Prospect
must be free!

He took a motor; put it on stand.
gathered the tools
and put them at hand.

Fear that gripped him, and just wouldn’t stop.
Fear the Prospect
would start her own shop.

With motor on stand - all birds in their nest
the motorman went home
for a long winter’s rest.

He will return! - after the snow
to find the way
the Prospect will go.
